Bakit wala pa tayong ginto? Why don't we have an Olympic gold yet?

The Philippines holds the record of having the most Olympic medals wihout a gold. We have 9 Olympic medals: 2 silver and 7 bronze. Five out of the nine medals were won in boxing.

While there is no question as to our fighting spirit and talent, there is a sore lack of resources for training and exposure for our boxers in competitions abroad.

It is in international amateur boxing tournaments that gain experience and exposure needed for our boxers to fully develop. It is also in certain competitions where qualifying slots for the Olympic Games are won. One other way to develop our Olympic boxing talent is, of course, in training. There are scientificboxing programs that have yet to be implemented for the Philippine Team. Government funding for sports development are limited and is divided among many sports programs, especially when it comes to sending our represenatives to tournaments abroad. One key example is in the 2008 Beijing Olympics where only one Filipino qualified for boxing.

But with your help and those of others, we have a fighting chance. It's time we worked together and support our boxers in their bid to finally win the elusive Olympic gold.

Ano ang Suntok Ginto Movement? What is the Suntok Ginto Movement?

The Suntok Ginto movement is an advocacy of the Amateur Boxers Association of the Philippines (ABAP) to raise funds for amateur boxing. Its goal is to help the Philippines win its first Olympic gold in boxing.

ABAP believes that with everyone's help and support for our boxers, winning an Olympic gold medal will no longer be just a dream. We can shore up the fighting chances of our boxers and prove to the world that the Philippines is a formidable contender in boxing.

Saan mapupunta ang pondong maiipon?Where will the funds go?

The funds will be directed towards acquiring world-class coaching and training, facilities and equipment for the Philippine team boxing program. It will also fund participaion of the team in tournaments abroad to develop skills and experience and build up confidence in international competitions.

Sino ang makikinabang sa pondo?Who will benefit from the fund?

The Philippine Boxing Team under the management of ABAP will be the direct beneficiaries of the fund. As of now, current funding is not enough to give training that is at par with those received by teams from other countries.. Allocations will also be given to reasonable living expenses and allowances for the team. Of course, the acquisition and maintenance of the team's equipment and facilities are high priority as well. Funds will also go to the participation in international competitions like the Asian Games, World Championships, and of course the Summer Olympics.

Can Manny Pacquiao join the Philipppine Boxing Team and compete in the Olympics?

Present rules dictate that Manny Pacquiao cannot compete in he Olympics because he is a profeesional boxer. Only recognized amateur boxers are eligible to compete in the Olympic Games.
